Green Caimito Box (Pre-Order)
Chrysophyllum cainito, better known as Green Caimito or Star Apple (not to be confused with Star Fruit), is a fruit tree native to the Greater and Western Antilles.
Green Star Apple is a phenomenal fruit, with sweet, jelly-like pulp which is reminiscent of lychee and blueberry. Apart from the captivating flavor of Caimito, this brilliant fruit has gained popularity because when the fruit is sliced in half, the shape of a star is clearly visible in the flesh of the fruit. This exotic tropical fruit is often described as being dessert-like, with a blend of unique tropical flavors. Many people prefer to refrigerate this sensational fruit and enjoy it chilled.
The fruit is generally eaten by using a knife to slice all the way around the fruit, cutting only the rind. The two halves are then pulled apart gently to expose the delicious pulp. The inedible seeds are plucked out of the pulp or coaxed out with a spoon. The edible part of the fruit is the gel-like pulp in the center, which is usually scooped out and eaten with a spoon. The thick rind of the fruit is not edible and should be discarded with the seeds which are also not edible.
This exotic tropical fruit is high in vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium and various antioxidants.
Allow your Caimito fruits to ripen at room temperature, as refrigerating unripe fruit will interfere with the natural ripening process. The fruit is ripe and ready to eat once it is soft to the touch. The skin of the ripe fruit will appear a little wrinkled, and less glossy. The fresh ripe fruit is often enjoyed chilled, and uneaten fruit may be stored in a refrigerator.
We personally grow and pick Caimito from our own fruit trees right here in Miami while they are in season. Due to incredible demand for this wonderful fruit, we also source organically grown Caimito from our local partners and growers.
Caimito has a short season in South Florida, so we recommend placing a Pre-Order ahead of the season to reserve your box. See “Pre-Orders” below for more information.
