Green Papaya Box

Carica papaya is also know as Green Papaya when harvested in its early stages. The large, unripe fruit is pear-shaped and has a green peel. The flesh of a Green Papaya fruit is a pale green color and semi-translucent in appearance. Green Papaya is a delicious, versatile fruit, which is generally cooked like a vegetable, similar to a squash. However, the unripe fruit can be shredded and added to salads, or sliced and included in vegetable stir-fries. The firm, crisp texture of Green Papaya is a wonderful touch in a variety of culinary combinations. The subtle flavor is reminiscent of cucumber, with a pleasant hint of sweetness, it is an essential ingredient for a variety of traditional Asian, Caribbean and Indian dishes and foods, such as Green Papaya Curry.

To prepare the fruit, cut the Green Papaya lengthwise to expose the seeds that line the center core of the fruit. Scoop out the seeds and discard them before cooking the fruit. (The seeds of a ripe Papaya will turn from a very light color to black. At that point the seeds can be ground and used as a pepper substitute with a hint of lemon taste.) The skin can be removed with a vegetable peeler and also discarded.

While Green Papaya is native to tropical South and Central America, we are fortunate here in south Florida that Papaya loves our climate and it is therefore, grown and picked locally year round.

Papayas are loaded with antioxidants that help boost the immune system, they are high in vitamins C and A, potassium and folate.

Green Papayas will keep a few days when stored in a plastic vegetable bag in the refrigerator. To keep longer, wrap the fruit in a paper towel to absorb moisture. They should keep like this for up to a couple weeks. Once the papaya is harvested green, it will not fully ripen.

Pre-Orders will ship in the order they are received, as soon as the fruit is in season and ready to be picked.

• Small Box contains approximately 3-5 pounds of fruit 
• Medium Box contains approximately 8-10 pounds of fruit
• Large Box contains approximately 14-16 pounds of fruit

Box weight and amounts vary depending on fruit type, volume and density. All boxes are shipped with sustainably produced biodegradable packing material instead of Styrofoam or bubble wrap. See our Shipping Guide for more information pertaining to our shipping schedule.

Please be mindful of estimated delivery times for orders, as prolonged package exposure to outdoor weather conditions, such as snow or extreme heat, will affect perishable produce.

All boxes are assembled and shipped starting on Monday of the week following your purchase. Please allow 1-2 weeks for your order to be shipped for any product which is in season. Pre-Orders will ship the following season for each respective fruit type, see details below.

When one of our fruits is not currently in season, or has sold out, we highly recommend placing Pre-Orders. Placing a Pre-Order of our rare and premium tropical fruits reserves your Box for the following season. When supply is low and demand is high, Pre-Orders are shipped first. Pre-Orders are shipped in the order in which they are received for each type of fruit. Your Pre-Order is shipped as soon as the fruits are in season and ready to be picked. Some fruits have only one season per year, others have multiple seasons. Please refer to our Fruit Seasons Guide for more information.
