Lilikoi Box (Pre Order)

Passiflora edilus var. flavicarpa is also known as Lillikoi, but most commonly it is referred to as Yellow Passion Fruit.  The Yellow Passion Fruit is native to Brazil and is grown in tropical and subtropical regions.

Right here in Miami and throughout south Florida we personally grow and source three of the most wonderful varieties of Passiflora, the Yellow (flavicarpa), Purple (edilus), and the sweet Granadilla (ligularis).

Similar to the Purple Passion Fruit, the Lilikoi, grows on a sprawling evergreen vine. Lilikoi fruits are large for passion fruit, very fragrant and the ripe fruit is bright yellow in color with light green spots.

Lilikoi is absolutely loaded with vitamin C. It also contains an array of other vitamins and nutrients such as carotene, vitamin A, and essential amino acids.

The center of the fruit is filled with a thick, yellow-orange colored, juicy seed-filled pulp.  The pulp is most often eaten by the spoonful, along with the soft seeds, which are completely edible.  The fruit presents an explosion of tropical flavors. The pulp is both sweet and sour, though balanced and distinct.

The fruit will arrive pristine, rounded and firm. Allow the fruit to ripen at room temperature as refrigerating unripe fruit may suspend the natural ripening process.

The fruit becomes sweeter and more flavorful once fully ripe. The best time to eat the fruit is once the outer skin has become a bit wrinkled and shriveled. For those who prefer the strong tart flavor, waiting will not be necessary.

Ripe fruit can be stored at room temperature for a week, or it may be refrigerated for several weeks. Passion fruit pulp of all kinds may be frozen for long term use.

Lilikoi is an excellent addition to a wide variety of dishes, recipes and especially drinks. So enjoy the best of the tropics with our delicious Yellow Passion Fruit!
