Sugar Apple Box (Pre-Order)

Size:

Annona squamosa, or Green Sugar Apple is an exotic tropical fruit tree native to South America and the West Indies. Sugar Apple has been grown throughout south Florida by tropical fruit pioneers for decades. The fruit is ovoid shaped with a thick segmented peel which becomes soft and delicate as the fruit fully ripens. Fruits generally measure several inches across and are a light green or teal color. The inner flesh of the fruit is white and contains a fair amount of shiny black inedible seeds which should be discarded.

Sugar Apple fruit is quite fragrant and sweet, with a flavor and texture reminiscent of a dessert custard. Impressively, Sugar Apples are a great source of vitamin C, thiamine, vitamin B9, B6, B5, B3, B2, potassium, iron, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus.

Ripe Sugar Apples are generally best eaten by slicing the fruit in half, or pulling it apart by hand. Then, the delicious custard-like fruit can be scooped out with a spoon. Remember to spit out the seeds!

Sugar Apples will generally ripen suddenly after a couple days of waiting. Allow the fruits to ripen at room temperature, as refrigerating the unripe fruit will slow or prevent the natural ripening process. During the ripening process, natural starches will begin to convert into sugars and the fruit will become soft to the touch. Segments along the peel of the fruit will become tender and lighter in color, some may even naturally separate. Fruits displaying these characteristics are ripe and should be eaten fresh as they do not keep long. Ripe uneaten fruit may be stored in a refrigerator for a couple days.

We personally grow and pick Sugar Apples right here in Miami from our own trees. If seasonal demand exceeds our production, we source Sugar Apples from local niche farmers who embrace similar ethical and sustainable growing practices to our own, without the use of pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.

Because our Sugar Apples are picked by hand and must be picked at the peak stage in development, we ask that you allow us 1-2 weeks to ship your box during the season.

We recommend placing a Pre-Order on Sugar Apples when they are not listed as In-Season. Pre-Orders are a great way for you to reserve your box of Sugar Apples ahead of the Seasonal Rush. Please see Pre-Orders below, for more information. Don’t miss out on this awesome fruit!
